The Morning We Shared with Aldo

Every morning, during my walk, I look forward to seeing Aldo.

Aldo is an old dog now. His steps have become slow and labored. Some days, it seems each step requires a little more effort than the day before.

His mommy walks faithfully beside him every day. This morning, as we talked, the weight of watching her beloved companion grow old became too much. She broke into tears.

No words were needed. Love speaks most clearly in moments like these.

Whenever our paths cross, I stop to greet Aldo. I pet him gently, and he always seems happy to receive the attention. It’s only a brief encounter, but somehow it has become part of our shared morning rhythm.

Standing there today reminded me that our time with those we love—whether people or animals—is never guaranteed. Life is precious. Every walk, every wag of the tail, every familiar face we meet along the way is a gift we don’t get to keep forever.

My prayer is simple: May Aldo live as long as he comfortably can. May each of his remaining days be filled with gentle walks, warm hands, kind words, and the unwavering love of the person who has walked beside him throughout his life.

Sometimes, the greatest lessons about love don’t come from grand events. They come from an old dog taking one more slow walk around the neighborhood.
