Outside the Ordinary

There comes a point when we realize that wanting a different life while continuing to live exactly as we always have, is a contradiction.

We want change, but keep the same routines. We want a different version of ourselves, but continue repeating the same patterns. But real change can only happen when we step outside what is ordinary for us.

It doesn’t have to be dramatic. It might mean waking earlier, choosing silence over distraction, changing how we eat, saying no when we would normally say yes, or simply doing something differently because we recognize that the old way no longer serves us.

The familiar has momentum. It pulls us back into the same routines, the same comforts, the same version of ourselves. To change direction, we sometimes have to swim upstream.

I keep coming back to this thought: To be extraordinary, I have to step outside the ordinary. Not extraordinary in the eyes of the world. Simply extraordinary enough to stop living on autopilot. Eventually, what feels unfamiliar becomes familiar. And a new ordinary begins.

The way out of the rut is simply to stop walking in the same groove.
