What is the Longing of My Soul?

Tonight’s Kundalini class was about soul listening and exploring the essence of self.
The teacher gave us a few questions to sit with: What is the longing of my Soul? What is the truth within myself that I most need to hear? If there was nothing blocking me, and nothing to fear, what would fulfillment be like? What does my Soul wish to create?
I didn’t want to make up beautiful answers just to fill the silence. But as I sat with the questions, something became clear.
Perhaps I already know more than I think I do. I know that I long to connect with spiritual truth through meditation and stillness. I love graceful movement and the freedom of dance. Music touches something deep within me. I am drawn to writing, connection, compassion, and service.
I want my life to create something meaningful—not necessarily something grand, but something that brings a little more beauty, peace, or goodness into the world. Maybe these aren’t separate interests, but different expressions of the same longing.
Then, after class, came a little reminder from life itself. I couldn’t find my car key.
I had tossed it onto the front seat while rearranging my bags in the back. I searched everywhere—both front seats, the back seats, beneath the yoga clothes and mats. It was nowhere. Just when I was beginning to wonder what I was going to do, I reached down beside the seat, into the narrow crevice between the door and the cushion. There it was. Right under my nose.
I laughed. What a perfectly timed little message.
Perhaps discovering the longing of the Soul isn’t always about finding something that is missing. It is about becoming still enough to recognize what is already here.
Be still. Listen. Receive what you need. Like my car key tonight, the thing I have been searching for is much closer than I imagined.
