Returning to Zero

Today I find myself unable to meditate. The mind is restless, filled with thoughts that refuse to settle. Ironically, I catch myself clinging even to the idea of meditation itself.
The more techniques I learn, the more distractions I seem to accumulate. Every method offers another thing to remember, another standard to meet, another way to wonder whether I am doing it correctly. So today, I am letting go of forcing.
I already understand, at least in principle, what samadhi and mindfulness are pointing toward. I know the quiet sense of well-being that naturally arises when the mind is no longer tossed about by every passing thought.
There is no need to chase that state.
Instead, I will allow myself to be mellow and at ease. A relaxed and genuine mind is enough. A light, gentle attitude—without striving for a particular outcome—is enough. I want to be softer and kinder with myself, trusting that steadiness grows naturally from gentleness rather than pressure.
Meditation is not another project to complete or another achievement to collect. It is not a gimmick to get somewhere else.
It is simply a returning. A returning to what is silently waiting within.
A returning to zero.
