A Different Kind of Prayer

I returned to my Kundalini class last night.

Near the end of the session, our teacher guided us into meditation. We stretched our arms upward and were invited to visualize a radiant light flowing from our hearts, expanding outward into the universe.

It sounds simple. Yet something extraordinary happened.

As I sat there with my eyes closed, I wasn’t merely imagining the light. I became completely immersed in it. The boundary between visualization and experience seemed to disappear.

For those few moments, there was no résumé to revise, no career to plan, no future to control. There was only light. Only openness. Only prayer.

Then, almost unbelievably, an inspiring opportunity surfaced shortly after this experience. The timing felt so synchronistic that I could hardly find words for it.

Looking back over the past year, I realize my prayers have quietly evolved.

At first, they were prayers for rescue: "Please help me find another job." "Please ease my financial burdens." "Please show me a way forward."

But somewhere along the way, something shifted.

Without realizing it, my prayer became less about asking for something and more about becoming someone. Someone who could serve wholeheartedly. Someone who could live with gratitude. Someone who could meet life with an open heart.

During the meditation, the light wasn’t flowing toward me. It was flowing from me. Perhaps therein lies the deeper transformation.
