Behind every seamless board meeting is someone working quietly carrying the details, orchestrating the flow, and holding the trust behind the boardroom doors to make everything click.
There are seasons when my role stretches far beyond the job description. Preparing for a board meeting is not just about agendas and presentations - it's about the unseen details that shape how the room feels, how the day flows, and how the leaders are supported.
In practice, that has meant sourcing breakfast, arranging lunches, setting out snacks, and sometimes even doing the dishes at the end of a long day. On paper, those tasks may not look like an assistant's work, but in reality they become part of ensuring the board's experience is seamless and professional.
Still, there are moments I wonder if I've taken too much upon myself. Delegation often leaves me scrambling to fix what falls short of the standard I hold. So, I rely on myself. It is a choice rooted in care - in wanting things to be right, thoughtful, and quietly polished.
What I remind myself is: the heart of my work is not in the pots and pans. It is in the orchestration - the flow, the timing, the atmosphere. It is the quiet assurance that someone is thinking two steps ahead so the the leaders in the room can stay focused on the big picture.
In retrospect, a balance of ownership and delegation is key. Delegation is not about lowering standards, but it's about allowing me to keep my hands on the details that matter most while entrusting others with the rest. It is how I make space for the more strategic role I am growing into.
