Mid-Year Review

It’s that time of year again—mid-year review season.

A familiar exercise. Reflect on goals. Rate progress. Think about the second half of the year.

After many years as an Executive Assistant, I no longer see these reviews as a measure of my worth. They are simply a moment to pause.

The truth is, much of an Executive Assistant's work is invisible. If the executives have what they need before they ask, meetings unfold without a hitch, travel runs smoothly, and the unexpected is quietly absorbed before anyone notices—that is a successful day. There may be no headline achievement, no business goals celebrated, only the quiet satisfaction of a job well done.

As I completed my review, I realized something else.

There are seasons when we strive for the next title, the next challenge, or the next opportunity. And there are seasons when growth becomes quieter. We become a little more patient. A little more present. A little more discerning about what truly deserves our energy.

Perhaps that is the gift of experience.

The review was submitted with a click, and life carried on. Tomorrow there will be another calendar to manage, another meeting to prepare, another executive to support.

And there will also be another sunrise.

Both are part of the work now.
