Day Off

I've never really taken a true day off - ashamed to admit it. Work has always been there, and I've always managed it, no matter the hour of the day.
But recently, I was "schooled". A blogpost (link below) reframed it completely for me: Taking paid time off is part of your paycheck. Skipping it is essentially telling my employer, "No thanks, I don't want that part of my compensation." This thought shook awake!
So today, I honored my day off. I marked myself as out on my executives' calendars - approved months ago - and kept it. This day is mine. Yes, I glance at my email inbox, but anything waiting there can be handled later. I'll still respond the same day - but just not on their clock.
And oh, what a difference. To stop. To not work. To sleep in. To sip coffee slowly. To run personal errand without rush. To pray longer. To sit in contemplation. To feel the sun warm my skin as I wander outside. To expand into the fullness of a day without demand. Most of all, to turn inward - journaling, mulling, simply letting silence guide me while the day unfolds.
A day off, it turns out, isn't wasted time. It is reclaimed life.
